New Pokemon Direct reveals Mega-Evolutions of the Kanto region starters!

The Pokemon Direct aired at 4:00 am this morning, and did it deliver or what?!? First off, it was revealed that the Kalos region starter Pokemon will be given to you by one of your rivals, and not by the professor like in the previous games. In fact, Professor Sycamore will give you one of the Kanto region starter Pokemon at some point in the game. Another one of MageLeif’s rumors is proven to be real!

Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle make their first appearance in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y!

Mega Charizard: When Charizard becomes Mega Charizard, its pointed horns and long tail give the Pokémon a look of sleek sharpness. Mega Charizard is in a league of its own when it comes to flying prowess, able to reach incredible heights. After it Mega Evolves, Mega Charizard’s Special Attack stat grows significantly, and its Ability changes to Drought, increasing the power of Fire-type attacks

Mega Venusaur: When Venusaur becomes Mega Venusaur, the flower on the Pokémon’s back blooms even more fantastically than before. Its legs and frame become more sturdy to support the weight of the huge flower. After it Mega Evolves, Mega Venusaur’s Ability changes to Thick Fat, which gives it some protection against two of its weaknesses: Fire-type moves and Ice-type moves

Mega Blastoise: The two rocket launchers on Blastoise’s shoulders turn into a single huge cannon when it Mega Evolves into Mega Blastoise. This cannon boasts a blast range so great that it can strike targets more than six miles away! With its new Mega Launcher Ability, pulse moves such as Water Pulse and Dark Pulse become even stronger.

More secrets about Mega Evolution were also revealed today. It was previously announced that certain Pokémon needed to hold a unique Mega Stone in order to Mega Evolve, but now it’s known that there is a second requirement players must fulfill for Mega Evolution to occur. Trainers must also obtain a bracelet called the Mega Ring that holds a mysterious stone called a Key Stone. The Trainer’s Key Stone resonates with the Mega Stone held by his or her Pokémon, and together they trigger the Evolution that is normally impossible—Mega Evolution.
